How do I get Word 2007 to do a spell check when I get the message that it didn't check the spelling of the tex

I have not checked anything that I am aware of that selected a certain part of my paper to not be checked by the spell checker. It isn't underlining words that are spelled wrong and yet it says that the speling is correct. I try to do a grammar spelling check but it says that the selected portion marked to not be checked for s[elling has not been checked.
