What to use to stop my car metal clapsing ariel from sticking?

Ive got a car ariel that retacts into the bonnet when the radio isnt on. However with all this winter weather it keeps getting stuck mid way down. What shall i use to help this. Ive tried WD40 but didnt work that well, and grease might be a bit sticky. Any ideas?
